NYC DYCD: Step it Up NYC 2016

Using Dance and Step to Build Bright Futures

You don’t have to go far to find deeply inspiring stories. From December 2015 to June of 2016, we spent a good chunk of our time documenting the stories behind the Step it Up NYC dance/step and service competition.

The competition is put on by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development. We were asked to create twelve videos for the 2016 competition season – eleven pieces documenting the service projects organized and carried out by the finalists and one piece about the competition itself. The videos debuted during the final competition showcase at the Apollo Theater in Harlem in June 2016.

It has been one of the most inspiring Show the Good journeys so far. The youth involved in the competition proved to us that the future is bright. Watch their stories below.

*Who’s Stoppin’ Us were the winners of the senior division and The Storming Steppers took the top prize in the junior division.
