Show the Good partnered with Athlete Ally to capture their 2024 Athlete Activism Summit through onsite video and photography in Louisville, TN.
The Story
In 2023, our team captured the magic of Athlete Ally’s annual Activism Summit in Seattle, WA. This year, we were brought back to do it again! Over the course of four days, college athletes, coaches, and administrators from across the country convened in Louisville, KY. They built community, gained knowledge, and committed to actions to help expand LGBTQIA+ inclusion and allyship on their campuses.
The Process
- First, we had an in-depth narrative call with Athlete Ally to co-create a vision for this year’s video deliverables.
- Simultaneously, our in-house producer worked to put all the logistics into place. This included developing a schedule for filming, reaching out to interviewees, and hiring a cinematographer and local photographer for the event.
- Once on site, our producer managed all logistics related to the event coverage.
- Our team of three captured all four days of action. This included panel sessions, breakout rooms, interactive activities and interviews with various attendees, staff and sponsors. Among our incredible interviewees was former Olympian, author and activist, Dr. John Carlos.
- We decided to “chapterize” the recap video, dividing it into three shorter stories for Athlete Ally to share across social media. You can watch the full version of the recap video above.
- In addition to the recap video, we created edits of their “Storytelling Sessions.” These highlighted various student athletes giving a Ted-Talk style presentation at the summit. The final edits included a short and long version of the students’ presentations, formatted both horizontally for web and vertically for social.
- The final assets included eight videos and a suite of 500+ photographs for the Athlete Ally team.
- Additionally, we created a separate cut of the event video for their sponsor, Adidas.
The Result
The Athlete Ally team debuted the recap video at their 2024 Action Awards this fall. They also shared the photographs our team captured across all of their social media platforms.
